Our country, and the entire world are in critical condition. Let's dig for solid information and VOTE this November! Our votes may be the CPR that saves us all!
What Was I Thinking About? Buying Air Time to Get People to Get the Facts and Vote?
As I said on the Home Page, despite facing this illness and mortality in a very real way, I'm more preoccupied by the upcoming election than my illness on most days because of the crises that we have seen occur and which will continue if we don't make "the Smart Vote" in November's election.
When asked by R News "why are you doing this?" the answer was obvious. It's my wife's fault! We discuss and agree on major expenditures, and she let me spend a bunch money so I could talk on TV to people and try to get them to vote responsibly this fall. Long ago she also "pushed me" to buy a Miata. Don't think I'm kidding when a say she's an angel!!
Obviously, the real reason for starting this project is that I am overwelmed by the multiple disasters that have occurred in this country recently that effect not only us, but the entire world. And again, not getting it right this November will, in my opinion, be global suicide
I guess that makes it a very selfish issue for me. But wait, I won't pay for a bad decision. It is my loved ones and their children, and the entire world who will pay. We really can't vote our individual wallets. We need to vote at least for our children's lives, and their children's lives.
I've been disgusted by our "mainstream media," which isn't liberal or conservative to me (but careful not mess with the status quo; maybe because they're owned by huge corporations and now have to make a profit [so yes, news has to be "catchy" and "entertaining" to do this]).
I see mainstream media:
Cover mega issues (as in grave importance) superficially and not even making a distinction between exagerations and outright lies!
Giving way too much precious air time to "pieces" that grab you with their sensational story lines (like mine, for instance) and human interest "fluff" (this can and should be done in other ways (Reality TV maybe?)
I'm sick of hearing "it doesn't matter whether I vote or not, they're all the same," when referring to our political representative. This IS NOT TRUE! Both parties are guilty of depending too much on huge sums of money to get elected, but if the last 7 years don't prove that the parties differ, nothing every will.
So I got revved up and produced (actually I paid for the station to produce) a TV advertisement/commercial with a local cable company (Time Warner of Rochester, NY). I had a great time meeting the staff, talking about: movies, books, family, the meaning of life, religion, checking out their cool video gadgets, making new friends, and oh yeah, making/filming the advertisement.
R News, from the local cable company, asked if "I'd mind" if they did a story about the ad. I had to give it a lot of thought (about 0.001 seconds) and said "H___ YES!!!" You can see the news story about the ad by clicking on the button below if you haven't clicked one of the links to it already.
I'm gradually collecting more and more web sites where you can find information from different points of view, sources not supported or staffed by one of the major parties, or mega-corporations. These sources can be found on the Low Bias Links page. I believe these sources show us more even handed views (or on some sites the view(s) of both parties/candidates on real issues rather than made up mud). You can really dig deep with some of these sites (and also waste a bunch of time that you should probably be using to get ready for winter etc.).
I hope you like the news story and will or have watched the actual ad, which will air is mid October. See it first below, if you'd like (with just a slight spelling problem with my last name, as in it's how "real" germans would spell it):
